Last Letters from Stalingrad was published anonymously in 1950. Scholarship has raised serious doubts about the collection’s authenticity. Its account of intercepted mail is therefore not equivalent to an independently verified archive record. Quotations in this documentary that lack an identifiable original letter, collection reference and edition/page should be treated as unverified literary testimony, not authenticated words of a named soldier.
