Che Guevara’s Road to Death: From Algiers to His Execution

The story behind the film

Che Guevara’s final journey began not in Bolivia, but in Algiers—when one explosive speech placed him on a collision course with the Soviet Union, Fidel Castro, and ultimately, his own death. This historical documentary follows Che Guevara’s road from the 1965 Afro-Asian Solidarity Conference in Algeria to the jungles of the Congo, the mountains of Bolivia, and the remote schoolhouse where his life came to an end. After openly accusing the Soviet Union of exploiting poorer nations, Che returned to Cuba under intense political pressure. He abandoned his government positions, disappeared from public view, and resurfaced in Africa under a false identity. His attempt to support the Simba Rebellion in the Congo quickly collapsed amid internal disorder, language barriers, illness, and military defeat. But Che refused to abandon his dream of global revolution. His next campaign took him to Bolivia, where he faced isolation, hunger, severe asthma, local resistance, and a growing manhunt led by the Bolivian military with support from US intelligence. On October 8, 1967, Che Guevara was wounded and captured in the Quebrada del Yuro. The following day, inside a small schoolhouse in La Higuera, he faced Sergeant Mario Terán and spoke his final words before his execution. From the speech that changed everything to the final bullets that transformed a man into a global symbol, this is the complete story of Che Guevara’s road to death.
